Cameco and Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation formalize their working relationship
PORT HOPE, Ontario, Canada (July 29, 2024) – Cameco and the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation (MSIFN) today celebrated the official signing and formalizing of their relationship. The relationship agreement emphasizes a shared commitment to open and honest communication and fostering long-term success through the five key pillars of education and workforce development, business development, community investment, community engagement and environmental stewardship.
Over the past three years, Cameco and MSIFN have been engaging actively by learning from each other, exploring mutual interests, establishing a foundation of trust and building a positive relationship. The formalized agreement signifies the next step in advancing the relationship and moving forward together.

Cameco has a long history of working collaboratively with Indigenous Peoples and local communities, recognizing the importance of these relationships for mutual growth and understanding. The agreement between Cameco and MSIFN is the first of its kind between the two parties, and it underscores the value they both place on building strong, respectful relationships.
MSIFN is actively involved in Ontario’s growing energy sector, demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing clean energy initiatives. MSIFN is the majority owner in Minogi Corporation, a clean energy investment company, and Voyageur Services Limited, a provider of nuclear and energy construction solutions. These ventures play an important role in the local energy landscape, contributing to sustainable development and environmental stewardship. By forging and nurturing relationships with various stakeholders in the energy sector, MSIFN continues to expand its involvement in the industry.
As Cameco and MSIFN move forward with this newly formalized relationship, both parties are dedicated to working closely together over the coming years.
